The Perfect Week in West Texas


 

A week out in West Texas comes with so many options on where to spend your time. It’s impossible to see and do it all in just one trip, and it can be overwhelming to decide where to start. We’ve done the research (over years of visiting the region), and we’re here with our opinion on what a perfect week in West Texas looks like.

 

TRAVEL SCHEDULE

 
 

Friday: Marfa

Visit The Chinati Foundation and book a tour of The Block.

Get dressed up and go to The Cochineal for a more upscale dinner.

 

Saturday: Marfa

Stop by The Get Go for any grocery needs.

Bordo for lunch.

Shop around at local stores like Marfa Brands, Raba Marfa and El Cosmico Provisions.

Convenience West for a BBQ dinner.

Enjoy a glass of wine or a cocktail on the patio at Marfa Wine Co or Marfa Spirit Co. Maybe grab a bottle to go.

 

Sunday: MarfaTerlingua

 

Grab coffee and breakfast in Marfa at Big Sandy or The Sentinel.

Drive the river road from Marfa to Terlingua.

Check into Willow House.

 
 

Monday: Terlingua

Pack a lunch and spend the day in Big Bend.

Enjoy a shorter hike (Window Trail, Balanced Rock, Mule Ears, or Lost Mine) in the morning and drive into Santa Elena Canyon for a picnic lunch or plan to spend the whole day hiking South Rim or Emory Peak.

If time permits, check out Boquillas Hot Springs.

Head to La Kiva for dinner and drinks or call in a pizza from Long Draw on your way back to Willow House.

 

Tuesday: Terlingua

Head over to Lajitas for golfing. While you’re in town, enjoy some fried pickles and a drink at The Thirsty Goat, the bar inside Lajitas Resort, named for the town’s famous goat mayor.

If you haven’t gotten groceries yet, stop by Cottonwood General for some ingredients to cook dinner at the house. You can stop by Shot Time too if you want to pick up some mezcal to sip on while you cook.

 

Wednesday: TerlinguaMarathon

 

La Posada Milagro for breakfast in Terlingua.

Drive back through the park to Marathon. Stop at the fossil exhibit.

Dinner at The White Buffalo Bar in The Gage Hotel

 
 

Thursday: MarathonAlpine

Stop by French Co Grocer to grab some coffee and breakfast.

Spend the day cruising around Alpine.

Stop by The Ritchey for a drink.

 
 
 

Friday: AlpineFort Davis

 

Check out Stone Village Market for some coffee and snacks for your day.

Hike in the Fort Davis State Park.

Dinner at Blue Mountain Bar & Grill. Aim for an earlier dinner if you want to catch happy hour from 5-7.

 
 

Saturday: Fort Davis — Home

On your way out of town, go jump in Balmorhea Springs. This puts you right by the town of Balmorhea to fuel up and grab a bite to eat. Try out Jo’s Bar and Grill if it’s close enough to lunchtime!
